One Night in Bangkok

January 26th, 2006

I will never recommend that anyone travel on Cathay Pacific. We checked in two hours early to find out that we didn’t have seats. We eventually got onto the flight, but had to run to catch it. Whatever – it’s past me now, so I’ll stop complaining.

Arriving in Thailand is a cultural experience all on its own. The mixture of modern infrastructure and blatant poverty is shocking. We left the airport in a nice car and drove into a lawless area with tuk-tuks (mopeds with seats on the back) everywhere. Street vendors line the streets and some of the street vendors are actually on the street. They drive mopeds around with carts of food on the side. Amazing!

Another cool thing about being in school during this experience is that many of my classmates are taking similar trips. My STs and I met up with Devon and Nickel for a hot pot dinner tonight. They seem to be really enjoying their trip and are actually going to Cambodia this weekend. Cool, right? I wish I had enough time to do the same. I definitely enjoyed seeing a couple of familiar faces and hearing about their experience so far. We are lucky people.

Today’s Food – lots of mystery foods, but 7.50 USD included more food and beer than I needed.
