The Case of the Missing Lectures

February 15th

So I have my first exam tomorrow. I’ve been to four classes (3 hours each) and the professor is yet to lecture on ANYTHING. I honestly don’t know what he talks about other than the fact that he is rich and made a lot of money. He puts slides on the web, but he has NEVER shown a slide during class. As you can imagine, our class is a little frustrated that we will now be tested on material that 1) he didn’t teach us or recommend that we read or 2) he doesn’t even include in his own power points. I’m fine with a research project, but call it what it is and don’t try to pass it off as if you taught us something. Fortunately, the Germans complain to administration a lot so the professor had to make some changes to the exam and he is now being forced to actually lecture on the topics. The lecture is on a Saturday and I still have to take the stupid test tomorrow, so I can’t say for sure who won. Looks like he did.

Interesting fact about Asian culture – I recommended that the professor make the test a take home (like all of my tests at home) so that we could put the appropriate amount of effort into the exam. The professor responded by saying that he couldn’t do that because the Chinese students would cheat and would not do their own work. Apparently “Honor Code” does not translate in Mandarin or Cantonese.
